Our maple syrup producer, Peter Purinton, has been making pure Vermont maple syrup for over 40 years. In 1984 Peter started his family owned business, Purinton Maple.
For the past 20 years Purinton Maple has produced approximately 1% of the state's syrup. Not bad when you realize there are more than 2,200 producers in the state of Vermont.
Peter, his family, and a small amount of part-time help maintain over 59 miles of tubing which connect from the maple trees to his sugar house.
A lot of hard work happens in a short amount of time to produce this short seasoned product. Sometimes continuous 12 hour days need to be worked to get the sap at peak stages of the run.
Peter has told us that the work is hard but it's a labor of love. Younger producers who come to see him are told that sugaring is, "Like a disease, and the only way to ease it is to tap more trees."
Think of that as you enjoy your pure Vermont Maple syrup!
