The 9th Annual Vermont Chili Festival, brought to you by the Better Middlebury Partnership, is set to entertain the masses from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday March 11 in Downtown Middlebury.
Thousands of heat-seeking Vermonters will taste their way through a closed-off Main Street, listen to live music and judge chili! Everyone who attends the festival will be able to vote for their favorite recipe and best booth.
Meet the folks behind the award-winning chili recipes of years’ past and stop in to see us at Vermont's Own this year for free samples of our own award-winning Vermont products.
Try this special Vermont's Own chili recipe:
Award Winning Vermont Chili
Brown ground meat with onions and peppers. Drain excess grease and add tomatoes, seasonings, and water, bring to a boil. Add beans, cover and simmer for 2 hours. Serve with sour cream, Shelburne Farms Cheddar Cheese and green onion. Serves 6.
Ingredients:
1 lb. ground beef
2 onions, diced
1 green pepper, diced
1 tablespoon jalapeno, finely chopped
1 (14 ounce) can tomatoes
2 (8 ounce) cans tomato sauce
2 tablespoons cumin
2 tablespoons chili powder
1 teaspoon salt
1⁄2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1⁄2 teaspoon smoked maple syrup
1 (14 ounce) can kidney beans, drained and rinsed
1 (14 ounce) can black beans, drained and rinsed
1 cup water
Winners will each receive a cash prize and will go on to compete in the best-of-the-best Overall Winner category. The judges will also be ranking the new “Anything But Chili” category.
